Norfolk Birding Exclusive Day – 18th April 2021

Today I guided a couple in the Holme area and we visited all the various areas around the reserve.

We recorded 73 species, the highlights today were c250 Dark-bellied Brents still present, a male Cuckoo calling, a nice selection of waders including, 4 Whimbrel, 65 Curlew, 100+ Golden Plover, Bar & Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Snipe, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, a Bittern booming, a single Great White Egret, and a great selction of raptors with at least 10+ Marsh Harrier which included multiple sky-dancing and display, plus Peregrine, 2 Red kite, 6 Buzzards, 2 Sparrowhawks and Kestrel. The shoreline late afternoon had good mixed flocks of shorebirds with Red Knot, Dunlin and Sanderling interspersed with Ringed Plover, Grey Plover and Bar-tailed Godwit. A lovely day in great light and sunny weather!
