February 16th 2019 – The persistence of a Merlin!
Non-guiding day Sheringham
I headed up to my patch early. It was fairly quiet save 3 Eider moving east, a few Skeins of Pink-footed Geese, seemingly heading off in a Westerly direction. There was a nice group of 50 Yellowhammers and 12 Reed Bunting feeding on the topped barley. It was a warm, mild morning and lots of Skylark were up and singing. The profusion of small birds was again proving attractive to tho overwintering Merlin, and I watched in awe as it tried to chase down a Skylark over 5 minutes, with at least 15 dives and failed attempts before they were both lost to view! Not great images but you get the picture!
