17th March 2022 – Brecks Day Tour

I headed to the Brecks today, we started early with a walk along the river, and was able to show the clients a pair of Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers, the male and female both in view showing very well. Nearby at least 4 singing Woodlarks were present and we had amazing views, well mainly sound as one male sang continuously for round 20 minutes, a wonderful Spring sound! Also Siskin, Brambling, Lesser Redpoll, Marsh Tit, Nuthatch, Great Spotted & Green Woodpecker and along the river a pair of Mandarin.

We next headed to a watchpoint and after a while several Buzzards rose into the air, then a Red Kite, then a Sparrowhawk and eventually we had views of at least 3 Goshawks, including a 2cy male Goshawk giving fine scope views, I was really pleased for the clients who were both really keen to see this particular species.

Next up was Firecrest, which gave fine views and we also had a Marsh Tit, Treecreeper & a nice carpet of Brambling and Yellowhammer coming to seed.

There was another Firecrest singing nearby and close views of another Marsh Tit. The roosting Tawny Owl, was in its usual spot and sitting out slightly away from the trunk, so good scope views.
