During 2005 I travelled around Norfolk birding mainly by bicycle in attempt to see as many species as possible during the year without the use of any motorised form of transport.
As well as getting extremely fit and losing nearly a stone in weight I finally amassed a grand total of 250 or 251 species (depending on your taxonomic beliefs!), and covered in excess of 2500 miles on the bike and probably several 100 miles on foot.
The initial challenge was laid down by my good friend Simon Woolley from Hampshire, although his undying belief that Hampshire is better than Norfok for birds was truly laid to rest! Well done though Simon, on a grand total of 218. Incredibly Simon covered over 3000 miles.
We hope to have a book/booklet covering the whole year out soon. In the meantime why not take a sneak preview from our blogspots.
